Huskers Earn Fourth-Consecutive Bid to NCAA Championships

Lincoln-The No. 2 Nebraska bowling team received an official bid today for the fourth-annual NCAA Women’s Bowling Championships in <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Apopka, Fla., on April 12-14. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

The Huskers, earning their fourth-consecutive NCAA invitation, are one of eight teams competing in the championships.  Other teams include CentralMissouriStateUniversity, Fairleigh-Dickinson University, Maryland-Eastern Shore University, Minnesota State-Mankato University, New Jersey City University, SacredHeartUniversity and VanderbiltUniversity.

 

The Central Florida Sports Commission and Sunshine State Conference will co-host the event, which will be held at Brunswick Wekiva Lanes.  The eight teams will battle in a qualifying round, which will have each team bowling four five-person regular team games and four five-game Baker matches using total pinfall to determine the winner.  The fourth Baker set will serve as the position round.  The total pinfall will serve as the tiebreaker.   

 

The NCAA championship finals will be broadcast live on ESPNU on April 14 at 5 p.m. CST, with another tape-delay broadcast to be shown on ESPN2 on April 15 at 5 p.m. CST.

 

Nebraska has earned four tournament titles and holds a 73-15 record on the year.  NU has claimed the NCAA national championship title two times (2004, 2005) since bowling became an NCAA certified sport during the 2003-04 season.
