Lincoln ? Junior Stephen T?trault earned the first Mountain Pacific Gymnast of the Week selection of his career on Tuesday, following an outstanding performance against Air Force to end the regular season last weekend.
Against the Falcons, T?trault notched season-high scores on the vault (9.00), high bar (9.05) and all-around (52.00). His scores on the vault and high bar gave the Lincoln native his second and third event titles of the year. T?trault’s title on the vault is his first since claiming All-America honors on the event in his freshman season in 2005.
T?trault’s score in the all-around landed him a second-place finish behind teammate Jason Wassung (52.40), while T?trault also finished second on the pommel horse (9.10) and third on the floor exercise (8.80).
Despite being a finalist for the 2005 MPSF Gymnast of the Year award, this is T?trault’s first Gymnast of the Week honor. Overall, Nebraska now has three such awards this season, including one from Wassung (Feb. 27) and another from sophomore T.J. Schmidt (Jan. 23).
T?trault is currently ranked 11th in the all-around (49.783) in the new modified three-score average released by GymInfo this week. Meanwhile, Wassung climbed to third in the all-around standings, the highest ranking of his career.
T?trault, Wassung and the Huskers are currently enjoying a two-week break before heading into postseason action at the MPSF Championships on Saturday, March 31 at 9 p.m. in Berkeley, Calif.
