The annual Spring Break Tour of Excellence took place in six communities from March 11-14, impacting approximately 4,000 middle level students.
Thirteen years and counting, the 2007 Tour kicked off in <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>South Sioux City under the leadership of Middle School Principal Steve Shadle. Principal Shadle is the father for former Nebraska standout scholar-athlete Anne Shadle. Two programs occurred in South Sioux City followed by an afternoon assembly at the Ponca Middle Schools.
Ponca graduate Andy Poulosky shared words of wisdom in his hometown. Surrounding schools from Allen, Emerson-Hubbard, Jackson and Newcastle also attended the Ponca program.

The program featured remarks from current Nebraska fullback Matt Senske about making healthy choices and former Husker Isaiah Fluellen who stressed the importance of having a positive outlook on life. Representing the Nebraska soccer program included Brigid Kenny and Danielle Schoen. Brigid talked about being a person of high character while Danielle spoke about the importance of believing in yourself and setting high goals.
Aaron Nasers, Skyler Reising, Nick Makukutu and Betsy Miller all represented the track and field and cross country programs. Nasers challenged students to just say NO to drugs and alcohol while Reising encouraged youth to be multi-talented and have more than just one passion. Miller, a Tour of Excellence veteran shared thoughts about work-ethic and destiny. Freshman Nick Makukutu shared insights about change and how to prepare for the transition from middle to high school.
Lil’ Red and Miss Nebraska 2006 also participated in the Tour of Excellence. Molly McGrath has traveled the state in her role as Miss Nebraska discussing the importance of goal setting with the help of two acronyms ? TPD ? Think, Plan, Do and WRR ? Write, Read and Revise. Action related to goals results in success.
Day two on the Tour of Excellence included stops in Wayne and Norfolk. The Norfolk program also featured remarks from hometown soccer standout and current Nebraska sophomore soccer player, Brittany Pfeil. The final leg of the Tour stopped in Columbus and Wahoo. Jenae Mueller joined the outreach team at the ColumbusMiddle School for two programs before the 2007 campaign concluded in Wahoo.
Nebraska student-athletes enjoy reaching out to youth across the state sharing important lifelong messages about school and life. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to make the 2007 Spring Break Tour of Excellence one of the most memorable in recent years.
