Nebraska sophomore outfielder Meghan Mullin will be presented with the 2006-07 Richard Raimondi Memorial Scholarship prior to the Huskers' 1:30 p.m. game on Saturday with North Dakota State at Bowlin Stadium.
Mullin is a history major who carries a cumulative 3.487 grade-point average in the classroom, while leading the Huskers on the field with a .358 batting average. A native of Mesa, Ariz., Mullin has been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll in each of her first three semesters at Nebraska and is an Academic All-Big 12 candidate this season.
The Richard Raimondi Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a member of the Husker softball team. The scholarship was created in December of 2001 to honor the father of former NU softball player Melanie Raimondi. The Raimondi Scholarship was the first fully endowed scholarship for a female athlete at Nebraska.
Saturday's on-field presentation, which will include members of the Raimondi family, will take place prior to the Huskers' second game of the day. NU opens the day with an 11 a.m. game against Arkansas before facing North Dakota State at 1:30 p.m.
Mullin is the fifth recipient of the scholarship, joining Amber Burgess (2002-03), KoKo Tacha (2003-04), Sheena Lawrick (2004-05) and Lizzy Aumua (2005-06). Tacha and Aumua were both named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans last season to push Nebraska's nation-leading total to 24 softball honorees.
