Stansbury, Hutchinson Lead Huskers Over UNO

Omaha, Neb. ? Behind two wins each from senior Danielle Stansbury and freshman Mariah Hutchinson, the Nebraska swimming and diving team tuned up for Saturday’s meet with No. 24 Missouri by defeating Nebraska-Omaha, 159-83, in Omaha on Friday night.

The Huskers (7-5, 1-3 Big 12) won 10 of the 13 events, including six of the first seven, to improve its road dual record to a perfect 5-0 this season. By earning its seventh win, Nebraska has now reached the seven-win mark in four straight seasons.

Hutchinson ruled the distance races by winning both the 500 (5:08.42) and 1,000 freestyle (10:28.20), while Stansbury took first on the one- (276.30) and three-meter (282.80) dives. Hutchinson’s 1,000 and Stansbury’s one meter performances were season-best marks.

Aside from Hutchinson, Nebraska also had an underclassman step up in the 200-IM as freshman Kaitlin Arntz won the race in 2:11.74. Arntz, a native of Omaha, wasn’t the only Husker who had a happy homecoming as sophomore C.J. Bray won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.88.

Lincoln, Neb., native Jenna Stroud won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.75 to give Nebraska natives five wins on the evening. The Huskers’ other event win came from senior Lauren Bailey in the 100 butterfly in a season-best time of 59.91.

Nebraska also won the 200 medley relay (freshman Kelsey Ida, Arntz, senior Bailey Ingles and junior Lynn Siemert) in 1:49.88 and the 400 freestyle relay (Bailey, senior Michelle Criss, sophomore Jenny Toler, Stroud) in 3:35.21.

Nebraska will now quickly turn its focus to Saturday when it hosts No. 24 Missouri on Senior Day at the Devaney Natatorium. The Tigers have cruised to a 7-2 record with Big 12 wins coming over Kansas and IowaState and its lone conference loss coming to No. 5 Texas A&M. Missouri’s most impressive non-conference win came against Louisville. The Tigers finished third at the Big 12 Relays in October.

The meet is set to start at 1 p.m. with the Senior Day ceremony beginning at approximately 12:50 p.m.
