Nebraska Climbs to No. 5 Nationally

Lincoln ? The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team improved its ranking to No. 5 nationally this week in the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches poll released Monday. The poll, which is calculated by average team score, also ranks NU first in both the South Central region and the Big 12 Conference after a second-place finish at the Super Six Challenge on Jan. 5. In addition, the Huskers rank first nationally in team bars scoring (49.40), third on vault (49.125) and seventh on floor (48.95).

Individually, junior Emily Parsons is the nation’s top-ranked vaulter (9.975) and ranked ninth on beam (9.85), while junior Desire’ Sniatynski and sophomore Vanessa Meloche are tied for third on bars (9.925). Junior Brittney Williams is also included in the bars standings with an average of 9.875 for 17th. In addition, sophomore Kylie Stone is tied for 16th (39.125) in the all-around standings.

The Huskers will travel to Ames, Iowa., this Friday, Jan. 19, to take on No. 6 Iowa State. Competition is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at ISU’s Hilton Coliseum.
