Lincoln ? Two former Husker swimmers and divers were among 31 University of Nebraska student-athletes that earned their degrees on Saturday, Dec. 16 during winter commencement ceremonies at the BobDevaneySportsCenter.
MacKenzie Clark, a distance freestylist for the Huskers from 2002-2006 earned a degree in advertising, while Abby Fitzpatrick, a diver for NU during the 2002-03, 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons graduated with a degree in criminal justice and pre-law.
Clark is a native of Colorado Springs, Colo., and will attend graduate school at UNL to earn a second minor in English. She will also be working for Parsons Public Relations in Lincoln as an intern. Fitzpatrick has moved back to her home state of Minnesota where she plans to attend law school in the fall.
Combined, the duo was named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll nine times during their careers as Huskers. Fitzpatrick was also a 2005 and 2006 First-Team Academic All-Big 12 selection, while Clark earned second-team honors in 2006.
“I admire each one of these student-athletes for the way they have balanced school with competition,” Nebraska Associate Athletic Director for Academic Programs and Student Services Dennis Leblanc said. “These 31 graduates add to Nebraska’s continually growing tradition of academic and athletic excellence. These student-athletes have come from all around the United States and the world to get an outstanding education while competing at the highest level of athletics. The athletic department, the University and the entire state of Nebraska should be proud.”
Nebraska continues to feature one of the highest graduation rates in the nation with an exhausted eligibility graduation rate of 94 percent.
