Pre-Colorado Game

Brandon Jackson
Junior, I-back
On Nebraska’s motivation against Colorado
"We’re just going to go out and play like it’s any other game. We still have a season to finish off and nothing changes for us, so we’re going out here and playing our best."

On finishing out the season strong
"Coach talks to us and he tells us that even though we won the North, it doesn’t mean we can just relax because we still have goals to accomplish. Our goals were winning the Big 12 North and dominating it and going out and doing our best."

On Colorado’s thoughts after Nebraska’s win in Boulder last year
"We feel like we kind of destroyed their tradition or whatever they had going on. I feel like they’re out to prove something, and they’ll probably try to kill our season or make the rest of our games just like theirs."

On the building of Nebraska’s football program since the Colorado game last year
"I think that game got a lot of believers in the team and players to believe in the system. What we had to do is accomplish a lot of goals, so far as coming in and turning the season around for the next year. I just remember how all of our coaches talked about how to finish off the season with a victory and how we needed to play hard until the end the regular season."

On the impact Nebraska’s seniors have had on the team’s development
"The seniors have been through so much with different coaching staffs and dealing with players who didn’t want to be here. For the ones who are here now, I feel dedicated in winning this game for them because most of them taught me so much, because I came here right after they did. It’s just an honor to have played for them. They just taught me the ins and outs of football and the defensive guys taught me some of their defensive schemes and moves. The guys are just special because really I feel like they got us where we’re at right now with their leadership."

On other players supporting him while he battled through a shoulder injury last season
"It just changed me emotionally. Everybody saw days when I was down. Some of the seniors, and even sophomores and juniors came up to me and told me everything was going to be all right. That’s one thing about senior leadership and upcoming leadership that our team has right now - it’s great."

On Nebraska’s condition going into the Colorado game
"Everybody’s fresh right now. We had a little time off to recuperate and I feel like we’re sharp mentally and physically. I feel like we’re ready to go out here and play a ball game."

On differences between last season and this season
"I believe everyone is taking coaching better now. It takes time to get these guys, like the freshmen, acclimated into a system. They’re just taking coaching better now and the coaches are coaching better."

On Colorado’s season
"I know they really haven’t won many games. But as the year went on, their defense kept getting better and better. I know they’re going to be out coming for us, so we just have to be ready for that."

On Zac Taylor’s impact on the team
"Zac is a major part of our offense and a major part of our leadership. Zac has done so much to help turn us around, and he’s taken over the team when he has to, just like in the A&M game. One play he got knocked out [hit pretty hard], but he got up and his eyes were rolling, but he finished the game with a win. I’ve seen that look in his eyes when he was getting up and that’s what made me think we still had a chance. Just by him leading by example is a major part of why we’re successful now."
