Minneapolis, Minn.? The Husker swimming and diving team scored 125 points on the final day of competition Sunday to maintain its fifth-place position and take home its third top-five finish in four years at the Minnesota Invite with 344.5 points.
Kate Wheeler and Lauren Bailey continued exciting senior seasons as each set NCAA provisional-qualifying marks to place third and fourth in the 1,650 freestyle. Wheeler (16:49.04) defeated Bailey (16:49.12) by just eight one-hundreths of a second.
Nebraska also had a pair of strong finishes in the 200 butterfly from freshman Mariah Hutchinson and senior Bailey Ingles. Hutchinson finished seventh in 2:09.45 after swimming a time of 2:07.31 in the preliminaries, while senior Bailey Ingles was ninth with a finals time of 2:07.72.
Senior Danielle Stansbury led the Husker divers with a sixth-place finish (204.15) on the platform dive.
Nebraska will now take a week off over Thanksgiving break before the divers compete at the Texas Invitational from Nov. 30-Dec. 2. The swimmers will travel to South DakotaState for a dual meet on Dec. 2.
