Huskers Move into Fifth at Minnesota Invite

Minneapolis, Minn. ? Senior Lauren Bailey picked up her second top eight finish in as many days and the Huskers’ 800 freestyle relay team finished third to move Nebraska into fifth place with 219.5 points at the Minnesota Invitational heading into the final day of competition Sunday.

 

Bailey swam the finals of the 400 IM in a time of 4:25.84 to finish sixth out of 49 swimmers and was Nebraska’s only individual top eight finisher of the day. The 800 freestyle relay team of freshman Mariah Hutchinson, sophomore Jenna Stroud, senior Michelle Criss and freshman Kaitlin Arntz that placed third in 7:45.78 was Nebraska’s highest overall finish of the meet through two days and was largely responsible the Huskers’ jump in the team standings.

 

Behind Bailey, a trio of freshmen were NU’s next highest finishers as Mariah Hutchinson had another impressive day with a 10th-place finish in the 100 butterfly (57.29), Kelsey Ida was 11th in the 100 backstroke (58.45) and Hailey Dean was 11th as well in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.31). Junior Adrienne Goodman was two spots behind Dean in 13th with a time of 1:05.75.

 

Sophomore Jenny Toler and senior Kate Wheeler also came up with solid finishes in the 200 freestyle as they placed 15th (1:53.60) and 16th (1:55.51), respectively.

 

The third and final day of the Minnesota Invitational begins with prelims on 10 a.m., on Sunday. Finals will start at 3 p.m.
