Lincoln - For the second straight month, Nebraska produced the Big 12 Women's Golfer of the Month, as true freshman Kate White earned the award for October.
White, a native of Waukegan, Ill., follows in the footsteps of Nebraska junior Elli Brown, who captured the conference's initial monthly award of the 2006-07 season in September.
White won her first career tournament at the Bronco Invitational in Boise, Idaho, Oct. 9-10. Along the way, White tied the school single-round record with her four-under-par 67 in the opening round on the 6,177-yard layout of the BanBury Golf Course. She added a 73 in each of the next two rounds to close the tournament with an even-par 213.
White added a tie for 21st at the Auburn Tiger-Derby Invitational on Oct. 28-29. Facing a spectacular field of 17 teams that included 15 squads that qualified for NCAA Regional play in 2006, White fired a one-under-par 71 in the second round to post her fifth consecutive top-30 finish to open her Husker career.
On the season, White has posted a 76.71 stroke average through five tournaments. She owns two top-10 tournament finishes, including a seventh-place showing to help Nebraska win the Chip-N Club Invitational title in September.
During the month of October, White produced an impressive five-round stroke average of 73.2
Nebraska closed its fall season at the NGCA Match Play Championships in Orlando, Fla., over the weekend. The Huskers will resume action at the Central District Invitational in Parrish, Fla., Feb. 19-20.
