Lincoln - The University of Nebraska Homecoming parade returned for the first time in 19 years and head basketball coach Doc Sadler was a part of it.
Sadler, along with members of the Nebraska Athletic Department and the NU Spirit Squad, made his way down around the UNL campus and down Greek row Friday night as one of approximately 25 floats that participated in the event.
“More than anything, this is what college is about,” Sadler said. “It’s about participating in activities like this while you’re here because that is the spirit of Nebraska. It’s Homecoming and there are a lot of people coming back so it’s a great week. Just to be a small part of this is exciting.”
Sadler interacted with UNL students and fans of all ages along the parade route, handing out schedule cards and throwing out free Nebraska basketball T-shirts.
The parade is ending a week full of events for Homecoming week, which was titled “Cornhusker Carnival Under the Big Top.”
Nebraska opens the 2006-07 season on Monday at 7 p.m., with an exhibition game against Nebraska-Kearney at the DevaneyCenter.
