Tulsa, Okla. ? As the field continues to narrow in the Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Tournament, the lone Husker still alive, James Clow, remains in the mix, winning in the first round of qualifying play early Monday.
Clow handled Baylor’s David Galic in two sets, defeating him 6-2, 6-2. With the field reduced to only 64 players, Clow advances to the second round of qualifying play to face Benjamin Carlotti of North Carolina at noon on Tuesday. The unranked Carlotti upset the No. 17-seed, Minnesota’s Nic Edlefsen, in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Last year Clow finished 3-2 at the first singles tournament of the fall. By advancing to Tuesday’s second round of the qualifying draw, Clow has opened his fall season with a 4-0 streak for the first time in his career.
