Huskers Finalize Men?s Basketball Schedule

Lincoln --- The Nebraska men’s basketball team finalized its schedule for the 2006-07 season, coach Doc Sadler announced Thursday.

Nebraska will play 16 regular-season home games and a pair of exhibition contests in the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Among the home contests are a pair of newly added games against Nebraska-Omaha (Nov. 14, 7 p.m.) and Lubbock Christian (Nov. 21, 7 p.m.). Nebraska played a building record 19 regular-season contests at the Devaney Center last year, compiling a 14-5 record and winning the program’s 350th contest in the venue. Nebraska is 356-114 (.757) overall in the building since it opened for the 1976-77 season.

"We were a little behind from the late start, but I think overall the schedule is where we need it to be," said Sadler. "We have a young team and they’re learning a new system. Add that to the strong list of road opponents that was set before we got here and our non-conference schedule stacks up to be one of the toughest in the nation. It will prepare us for the Big 12 season."

Ticket sales for Husker basketball games in Sadler’s first year in Lincoln are up. Through Wednesday, Oct. 18, the Nebraska Athletic Ticket Office had sold nearly 7,650 public season tickets, an increase of more than 18 percent over public sales last year. Fans can still get great seats for as lows as $108 for a season ticket. To purchase season tickets, contact the ticket office at 800-8BIGRED or in the state of Nebraska at 402-472-3111. Season tickets can also be purchased during normal business hours at the ticket office located at the corner of Stadium Drive and T Street across from Memorial Stadium.

The recently added contest against Nebraska-Omaha will be the Huskers’ regular-season opener. Nebraska continues its run against state rivals when it faces Creighton on Nov. 18 and follows with its first regular-season game against an out-of-state foe on Nov. 21 against Lubbock Christian. Other contests at the Devaney Center during the non-conference season include: Nov. 27 vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Nov. 29 vs. North Texas, Dec. 17 vs. Alabama A&M, Jan. 3 vs. Savannah State and Jan. 6 vs. Western Kentucky.

Overall the Huskers will play at least four non-conference games against teams that reached the 2006 postseason, including Creighton and Western Kentucky at home. NU will also take on eight Big 12 Conference teams at home, including Oklahoma State (Jan. 13), Colorado (Jan. 20), Texas (Jan. 24), Kansas (Jan. 29), Texas A&M (Feb. 10), Kansas State (Feb. 13), Missouri (Feb. 24) and Iowa State (Feb. 28).
