On his comfort level with the defense
“I’m very comfortable right now. I feel good about the chemistry that our team has.”<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
On <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Texas quarterback Colt McCoy
“He’s a talented kid. He’s athletic. But we’re going to bring some pressure on him.”
On Texas’s receivers
“We’ve seen some great receivers already this year. La Tech’s receivers were really athletic, and obviously USC was great as well. But Limas Sweed is good, too. He’s a big-bodied guy. He’s fast and he’s got good hands.”
On the importance of a win
“A win would just be another step in the right direction. Any conference game is important. The USC game was important, but it was a non-conference game early in the season so it doesn’t have the weight that this game does conference-wise.”
On if the Huskers are up to the challenge
“Definitely. We’re excited. We’re excited to be back at practice today after having yesterday off and we’re ready to work.”
On Nebraska’s level of preparation
“I think all the games we’ve played have helped us prepare. We’ve played the last two games on the road against talented teams. We’ve developed the mentality that we’re comfortable on the road. More comfortable than I’ve seen this team since I’ve been here. But we always love playing at home, and the home crowd is going to be a nice addition for us.”
On the defense’s progress
“I think that we’ve progressed over the last few games. Whenever you play a Big 12 team you know you’re going to have to bring your 'A' game or you’re going to lose. I think that is the main lesson we took away from KansasState and it helps our mindset.”
On ignoring the hype of playing the defending national champions
“You prepare for every opponent as hard as you can. We just have to prepare for a talented ball club and know that mentally we have to execute our assignments. We left a lot on the field against KansasState. We played well, but there were a lot of areas that had room for improvement. So we just need to focus on fixing those mistakes this week so we can take the next step.”
