Head Coach Bill Callahan
Opening statement
“First off, it’s great to be part of the 800th win in Nebraska football history. It’s a definite milestone and something that we’re very proud to contribute to tonight. We’re awfully proud of the way our players performed tonight. I give a lot of credit to KansasState, they’ve got a very tough ? they’re a very competitive football team as you witnessed by their defensive performance. They’ll be a good football team in the future.
“Our defense had a stalwart effort today against their running attack, forced them into a one-dimensional game. They pressured the quarterback consistently and really forced them into positions that I don’t think they were too comfortable in.
“A lot of credit goes to our offense ? maintaining the running game on the road ? playing good defense and coming up with some big plays when we had to.”
On the defensive pressure on K-State’s quarterback
“I thought our defense had a nice pressure package today. I think (Coach Cosgrove) had an excellent design in terms of attacking the quarterback ? I liked our plan. We came at them with a lot of different stuff. We forced them into a one-dimensional game, that’s why it was important to get a lead early in the game. To come away with a victory here is really key. Any time you play in this Big 12 North on the road, it’s awfully tough. We saw their best effort of the season today.”
On his team’s growing maturity
“Anytime you’re having success it speaks to execution, which is a matter of focus and the attention to detail. That’s the biggest thing I see. I see detailed work being done in all phases of our game. For a coach that’s satisfying, but we’ve got an awful lot to improve just based on what we saw out there today. I credit KansasState. They’re a good football team, they’ve got a lot of excellent athletes ? they played extremely hard tonight.”
