Timko Tallies Third Weekly Honor

Each week, players from around the nation are selected for any one of a handful of weekly honors.  Some gain league nods, while others add national accolades.  But for Nebraska senior Brittany Timko, this past week brought all of the above.

For the second time this season, SoccerTimes.com announced Friday that Timko has been named to its honor roll, which recognizes the week’s most outstanding collegiate players.  Timko is one of just two players in the nation to land on the list twice this season, as Notre Dame freshman Michele Weisgartner also boasts a pair of honor roll appearances.

The recognition is just one of three for Timko this week alone, as the Coquitlam, British Columbia, native also received Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week honors as well as being selected as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.

The flood of awards follows an outstanding weekend for Timko that included three goals and one assist to lead the Huskers to come-from-behind league wins over Baylor and Texas Tech.  Timko produced the game-tying goal in both matches, while tacking on the game-winning goal against the Red Raiders.  Timko also notched an assist on the game-winning goal against Baylor.

Timko’s two goals against Texas Tech gave her 41 goals on her career in addition to her 41 career assists.  She is only the second player in school history to record 40 goals and 40 assists in a career.  Timko joined Meghan Anderson (48 goals, 50 assists) as the only two players in Nebraska soccer history to hit the 40/40 mark.  Timko and Anderson are also the only players in the 11-year history of the Big 12 Conference to join the 40/40 club, as well as being two of just 35 players in NCAA history to reach the marks.

Timko has a Big 12 Conference-leading 28 points behind 11 goals and six assists this season.  The 5-7 forward leads the league in several statistical categories including points (28), points per game (2.15), goals (11) and goals per game (0.85), while ranking second in assists (6).  Timko’s explosive weekend also catapulted her into the upper echelons of the national rankings where she now ranks fifth in points per game and seventh in goals per game.

Timko will add one final honor to her outstanding week of accolades this Sunday, Oct. 15 as she is recognized in a special Senior Day ceremony prior to the 1 p.m. kickoff between NU and Texas at the Nebraska Soccer Field.
