Tulsa, Okla. ? Senior James Clow was eliminated in Tuesday’s second round of qualifying play in the Polo Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Tournament. Clow fell in two sets to North Carolina’s Benjamin Carlotti, 2-6, 2-6.
“We expected Carlotti to be a tough competitor for James to face,” head coach Kerry McDermott said. “James and Carlotti have very similar styles of play, so we knew it was going to come down to who made fewer errors.”
With Carlotti consistently hitting his marks, Clow found himself trying to force the action throughout the majority of the match, causing him to make more errors than usual.
“It’s always disappointing to lose, but how James bounces back from this loss is what really matters,” McDermott said.
Clow will have that chance to bounce back soon, as he and his teammates travel to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the Georgia Tech Tournament. McDermott hopes to bring a full roster to the Georgia Tech Tournament, but will adjust accordingly depending on health issues or injuries. The tournament is set to begin on Friday, Oct. 6 and runs through Sunday, Oct. 8.
