Safe Quarters is a grassroots, community-wide effort to collect change and other financial contributions for women and children who seek refuge at Friendship Home from violence in their own homes. Safe Quarters also exists to raise awareness of domestic violence and resources available to help victims.
Last year's event received outstanding support from the Lincoln community, raising much-needed funds for safe shelter.
The culmination of Safe Quarters 2006 is a one-day effort, during which 150 volunteer teams canvass the city of Lincoln. These volunteers together undertake the Herculean task of knocking on the door of each and every household to request support.
The Lincoln Friendship Home embraces any woman or child who experiences domestic violence. It seeks to hold abusers accountable for the crimes they commit against battered women and allow victims to rebuild their lives - free of fear. The Friendship Home is an affiliate agency of the United Way of Lincoln and LancasterCounty. For more information, please contact the Development Assistant at (402) 436-2156.
Those persons unable to assist with door-to-door volunteers on Oct. 1, are welcome to make cash donations at any Union Bank location from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31. Check for Safe Quarters should be mailed to Safe Quarters, Friendship Home, P.O. Box 85358, Lincoln, NE 68501.
