Thompson Falls in Quarterfinals of Worlds

Former NU All-American and national champion Tolly Thompson was eliminated in the quarterfinals in the 120kg freestyle bracket of the 2006 World Championships in Guangzhou, China on Friday. 

 

Thompson, who won the bronze medal in the 2005 World Championships, lost 2-0, 1-0, to Fardin Masoumi Valadi of Iran.  After a first-round bye, Thompson moved into the quarterfinals with a 3-3, 1-0, 2-0 win over Eldar Kurtanidze (Georgia).

 

Thompson, currently an assistant coach at Northern Iowa after starting his coaching career at Nebraska, holds the school record for career wins with a 157-21 record at NU.  He also holds three of the top 10 seasons in terms of wins in Husker wrestling history.
