Jay Moore
Senior, Defensive End
On losing to Kansas last season
"I’m sure it’s going to come up at one point in time in everyone’s mind, but I think we just have to be mature. That’s last season. This is a whole new year and a whole new ball club. It’s a new opponent and a new start to the season with the Big 12 and we just have to take it like the last four games."

On the importance of this game
"Every game you play in the Big 12 is the most important just because there are so many implications of every game. We just want to get on the right start with the very first game and it all starts today when we hit that practice field."

On KU’s inconsistency at quarterback
"Every week I think it doesn’t matter who the quarterback is or what their situation with the offensive line is because it doesn’t change my mentality about the game. Every play I’m just trying to go as hard as I can and do the best that I can. No matter if he’s a true freshman or an All-American senior I’m going to do whatever I can to get to this quarterback. That’s just the way I am. You can only control what we can do. It doesn’t matter what they do."

On how putting pressure on the quarterback affects an opponent’s game
"If we have some success early on getting to the quarterback they could start running some screens, maybe some draws or maybe some three-step passes. That definitely can change their game plan."

On Kansas running back Jon Cornish
"He’s talented. He’s got some wheels on him. He’s very fast and explosive so we’re going to have to be tight up front in everything we do to get him wrapped up. With any talented back so you just have to be very disciplined up front, guys can’t be trying to be playmakers out there. They have to be disciplined out there and if he comes in your gap, you have to make the play. They exposed us last year with us not being disciplined so that’s going to be a huge focus this week."

On whether or not KU will rely on the run
"That’s a possibility, but I know last year they had some really good success running the ball against us. They exposed us especially up front. We got up field and they just pushed us on by and ran right through. So it could be a possibility. I think it depends on how the game goes early on. I think (Jon Cornish) is going to get the ball. He’s a very good ball player so they can’t keep it from him."

On the performance of the Blackshirts
"We’re getting better every game. Even though we lost at USC, I think we improved from Nicholls State. We got better from USC to Troy and that’s all we can do is just focus on getting better. I think everyone could still play better. I could play better. We’re still working on it."
