Huskers Serve at Alzheimer's Memory Walk

Lincoln ? The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team took advantage of a community service opportunity last Sunday, Sept. 17, venturing out into the Lincoln community to benefit the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk. The event was held at AntelopePark, and NU’s 12 gymnasts performed a short demo that included basic skills, strength and flexibility for the volunteers and walkers on hand.

“The team truly enjoys giving back to the community, and they are involved in several service projects each year,” Assistant Coach Danna Durante said. “The projects they choose to get involved with are ones that touch their hearts and lives. Not only are the service organizations excited about athletes’ involvement, but our athletes gain such a sense of pride and excitement from helping others in our community.”

The Huskers will also be involved in the annual Safe Quarters project on Oct. 1, as well as a service opportunity with Dads of Kids with Disabilities later that month.

Nebraska finished the 2006 season with a fifth-place showing at the NCAA Championships. With seven returning All-Americans, including seven-time honoree Emily Parsons, NU is poised to make a run for its eighth Big 12 Conference team championship in 2007.
