Lincoln ? The Nebraska football team held a final two-hour practice in half-pads inside the HawksChampionshipCenter due to inclement weather Thursday as it continues to prepare for the fourth game of the season, including its third at home, against TroyUniversity.
Head Coach Bill Callahan touched on the defensive efforts of Troy, which recently held powerhouse FloridaState to within one touchdown.
“They’re very sound, they have multiple coverages that they utilize, and they have speed at the linebacker and defensive end position, so it makes them really effective (on the defensive side),” Callahan said. “I think they’ve got size where they need to have it and speed where they need to have it.”
Callahan additionally addressed starting I-back Marlon Lucky’s ability to play through injuries not only this season but throughout his two-year career at Nebraska.
“He practiced all week and he’s done a really good job of bouncing back,” Callahan said. “He’s practiced with some really tough injuries, and I’ve always liked his ability to come back and play with some bumps and bruises. That’s really been his trademark since he’s been here. I’m really proud of the way he’s practiced and prepared himself.”
Callahan also discussed the opportunity to host recruits that will have a chance to see Memorial Stadium in a night setting.
“We’re going to do our best to bring in the very best players we can for this game,” Callahan said.
The football team will hold a final walk through Friday before Saturday’s evening contest against Troy in Memorial Stadium. The Saturday match-up will be televised on Fox Sports Net pay-per-view at 6 p.m. CST.
