Lincoln, Neb.?Junior Imke Reimers of the Nebraska women’s tennis team was ranked No. 106 in the ITA national rankings released on Friday, Sept. 8. The ranking marks the first time Reimers has received a fall ranking.
Reimers finished the 2005-06 season with a 25-9 singles record, which tied for fifth on NU’s season single wins chart with Husker great Gitte Ostermann. Reimers ended the fall well with a four-match winning streak and won the ITA Central Regional Consolation Tournament.
The Popenburg, Germany, native started the season No. 3 in the Huskers’ singles lineup, but after winning three of her first four matches, she moved up to No. 2, where she remained for the rest of the season. In her first match at No. 2, Reimers upset then-No. 38 Ela Kaluder of Arkansas in straight sets. The win marked her first career victory over a ranked opponent.
Reimers gave Nebraska consistency at the end of the year, winning seven out of eight completed matches to close out the season and posted a 15-6 singles record at No. 2.
Reimers and the Huskers hit the court for their first action of the fall at the Minnesota Invitational which begins on Sept. 15.
