Middle Tennessee Tops Saint Mary's

Lincoln - Ashley Adams racked up 24 kills to lead Middle Tennessee to a 30-24, 23-30, 36-34, 23-30, 15-13 win over S aint. Mary's on Sunday in the Nebraska Invitational.

Adams finished with a match-high 24 kills, including four in the finale, as the Blue Raiders (3-3) snapped a two-match losing streak. Ashley Asberry also  finished in double figures for the winners, finishing with 14 kills and six blocks

Middle Tennessee ran away with the first game with three kills from four different players, hitting .200 as a team and holding St. Mary's to -.034 hitting . Middle Tennessee jumped out to a 7-2 lead before St. Mary's tied the game at 13 on a 11-6 run that included kills from four different players. However, Middle Tennessee's Ashley Asberry stepped in to spark the Blue Raiders to a 9-3 run with three kills of her own to close the  game .

St. Mary's  rebounded with a 30-23 victory in game two as  Christina Kirk posted six kills on just six attacks  to help the Gaels hit .457 in the game. SMC took control late in game two, closing with a 10-3 run to send the match to the locker room tied at one game apiece.

Middle Tennessee came back from the locker room swinging, jumping out to a 19-11 lead  and led 25-19 before Saint Mary's made a late charge. The Gaels would tie the match at 29 and trade points until consecutive kills by Adams gave Middle Tennessee a 36-34 win. Adams  finished with nine game in game three alone.
 
St. Mary's put in one last effort in game four as Lauren Jaeckel snagged six hits and the Gaels' defense held Middle Tennessee to -.024 hitting  to send the match to a decisive fifth game. However, the Blue Raiders answered in game five as  Adams again came through with four kills to secure the win.

Missie Stidham led the Gaels' (3-3) effort with 19 kills and two service aces while also snagging seven digs and two block assists.
