Long Beach State 3, Saint Mary's 2

Lincoln -- Behind a 20-kill performance from Naomi Washington, Long Beach State pulled out a 3-2 victory (22-30, 30-25, 30-22, 28-30, 15-7) over Saint Mary’s Saturday evening at the Nebraska Invitational.

Washington was one of the five 49ers with at least 10 kills for Long Beach State, which upped its record to 5-1 on the season. Quincy Verdin totaled 16 kills on .313 hitting, while Alexis Crimes, Robin Miramontes and Michaela Hasalikova all reached double figures.

Crimes, who totaled a team-high five blocks, and Verdin did most of the damage for Long Beach State in the decisive game five, combining for six kill on seven swings as the 49ers jumped out to a 7-2 lead and were never threatened. Long Beach State hit .300 in game five, while holding Saint Mary’s (3-2) to .050 in game and just .196 on the evening.

Taylor Groess totaled a team-high 19 kills for Saint Mary’s, which out-blocked LBSU, 13.5-12. Missie Stidham finished with 15 kills, including seven in game one, while Lauren Holland and Christina Kirk totaled 13 apiece.

Iris Murray totaled a match-high 29 digs for LBSU, as the 49ers out-dug Saint Mary’s, 100-72.
