Gordon Named Texas League Player of the Year

Wichita, Kan. ? Former Husker All-American Alex Gordon received another on Tuesday, as he was chosen as the Texas League Player of the Year.

Gordon, who was drafted by the Kansas City Royals with the No. 2 pick of the 2005 draft, is ranked in the top five in 13 Texas League offensive categories, as he leads the league in walks (71), on-base percentage plus slugging percentage (1.026), slugging percentage (.597), runs scored (109) and total bases (276). He is hitting .325 with 29 homers, 95 RBIs and also has 22 stolen bases.

Gordon is the second Wichita Wrangler to earn Texas League Player-of-the-Year honors, joining Johnny Damon in 1995. Gordon was a two-time All-American during his Husker playing career, earning consensus National Player of the Year in 2005 after leading Nebraska to a school-record 57 wins and a College World Series appearance.
