Colorado Springs, Colo. ? Stephen T?trault and Jason Wassung advanced to the 2006 VISA Championships after turning in top performances at the U.S. Qualifier in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Saturday, July 15. T?trault and Wassung were among 27 senior men’s gymnasts to advance.
Both T?trault and Wassung competed in the second session of the event, which was the final opportunity to qualify for the VISA Championships, with T?trault finishing 21st and Wassung, 17th in the session.
T?trault’s top performance came on the pommel horse where he finished fifth with a score of 14.45. He also placed in the top 10 on vault, where he finished eighth with a score of 15.20.
Wassung’s best finishes of the day were in the vault and parallel bars, as he placed 10th overall in both with scores of 15.15 and 14.65, respectively.
Nebraska incoming freshman Kyle Shanahan, who also competed at the event, did not advance in the senior men’s division.
The 2006 VISA Championships will be held at the XcelEnergyCenter in St. Paul, Minn., August 16-19. The event showcases the nation’s top talent in men’s gymnastics, with the competition deciding the field for the U.S. National team.
