Future Huskers Named High School All-Americans

Incoming Huskers Kaitlyn Arntz and Colleen Criss wrapped up successful high school careers by earning 2005-06 NISCA/Speedo Swimming and Diving All-America honors.

A native of Omaha, Neb., Arntz garnered four All-America awards during her outstanding senior season at Millard West High School. She ranked as high as 62nd in the nation in the 200-yard individual medley, and was 68th in the 100-yard breaststroke and 125th in the 200-yard freestyle. Arntz’s 200-yard medley relay team turned in an All-America performance that was 115th nationally, while she just missed out in the 50-yard freestyle (175th) and 200-yard freestyle relay (161st).

Criss, also of Omaha and a graduate of Marian High School, was named an All-American in two relay events, most notably the 200-yard freestyle relay that ranked ninth nationally. A younger sister to current Husker Michelle Criss, Colleen was also a member of the 200-yard medley relay team (108th) that earned All-America accolades, while coming up just short in the 200-yard individual medley (167th) and 100-yard breaststroke (190th).

A third Husker recruit, Mariah Hutchinson of Topeka, Kan. (Topeka High School) nearly gained All-America honors by swimming the 147th and 178th fastest times in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard freestyle relay.

Awards are given to the top 130 performances in the nation among high school athletes each year by the NISCA (National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association).
