Lincoln - Kelsey Griffin, Jelena Spiric and Jessica Gerhart represented the Nebraska women's basketball team as three of NU's 249 members of the 2006 Big 12 Commissioner’s Spring Honor Roll.
Spiric, a senior from Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro, earned her degree in biochemistry in May. The 2005 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Spiric will play her final season at Nebraska in 2006-07 as a graduate student.
Gerhart, a junior from Fenton, Iowa, also claimed her degree in May after just six semesters at Nebraska. The dietetics major who was a six-time Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll member and two-time first-team academic All-Big 12 selection, will forego her senior year at Nebraska to pursue a career in the medical profession.
Griffin, a freshman from Eagle River, Alaska, finished the year strong in the classroom after earning a spot on the Big 12's All-Newcomer team and being named the Dallas Morning News Big 12 Freshman of the Year for her performance on the court.
The Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognizes student-athletes who earned a 3.0 GPA or higher during the previous semester. Overall, Nebraska had 249 student-athletes named to the spring honor roll, including 38 who produced perfect 4.0 grade-point averages during the spring semester.
