Aumua and Tacha Named Academic All-Americans

The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska softball program added two more student-athletes to its nation-leading total of CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, as senior Lizzy Aumua was named to the 2006 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America first team, while fellow senior KoKo Tacha was a third-team selection. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

The Huskers’ two academic All-Americans tied for the most selections from any school in the university division. NU now boasts a nation-leading total of 24 academic All-America selections in program history, six more than second-place New Jersey. As an institution, Nebraska leads all colleges and universities in the nation with a total of 229 academic All-Americans all-time.

Aumua, a first-team All-Big 12 and academic All-Big 12 pick in 2006, carries a 3.88 GPA in sociology. One of three outfielders on the first team, Aumua earned her degree at the May 2006 commencement ceremonies. Aumua, who transferred to Nebraska from Mt. San Antonio College, earned academic All-America honors in the first and only season she was eligible for the award.

A native of Manhattan, Kan., Tacha earned a spot on the third team after earning eight Big 12 Commissioner’s honor roll selections and three first-team academic All-Big 12 awards. Named to the team as a utility/designated player, Tacha carries a 3.96 GPA in business administration. Tacha was also selected to attend the NCAA Leadership Conference earlier this month.

Nebraska softball has produced more academic All-Americans in the 31-year history of the program, including eight honorees in Rhonda Revelle’s 14-year tenure as head coach of the Huskers.
