Three Swimmers Set to Graduate

Lincoln ? Alex King, Esmie Holderman and Emily Becker will represent the Nebraska swimming and diving team on Saturday at the BobDevaneySportsCenter as the trio will be among 54 University of Nebraska student-athletes to graduate during spring commencement ceremonies.

 

Alex King will graduate with a degree in chemical engineering after serving as a multi-event swimmer during her career at Nebraska. A native of Amarillo, Texas, King earned spots on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll every semester at Nebraska. She was also a 2005 and 2006 first-team academic All-Big 12 honoree.

 

San Pedro, Calif. native Esmie Holderman will receive a degree in biological sciences. A distance swimmer for Nebraska, Holderman was a first-team academic-All Big 12 honoree in 2005 and a second-team selection in 2006. She has been on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll five times throughout her career and will attend graduate school next year at USC.

 

Emily Becker is a native of Bakersfield, Calif. and was on the Nebraska swimming and diving team for her first three years at NU. She earned Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll honors five times and was a 2005 first-team academic All-Big 12 selection. Becker is graduating with a degree is veterinary sciences and will seek employment in that field in the Lincoln area next year.

 

“I commend each one of these Nebraska student-athletes for the way they have balances classwork with competition,” Nebraska Associate Athletic Director for Academic Programs and Students Services Dennis LeBlanc said. “These 54 graduates come from a diverse background from around the country and the world and have represented Nebraska at the highest level in academics and athletics. The athletic department, the University and the state of Nebraska should be proud.”
