Student-Athlete Leadership Breakfast ? April 25, 2006<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Twenty-three <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>University of Nebraska student-athletes were recognized April 25 at the first-ever Student-Athlete Leadership Breakfast. Nominated by members of the Athletic/Academic Staff and Coaching staff, student-athletes were recognized for their commitment to service, citizenship and leadership. Those being honored have been the driving force in Nebraska being recognized annually for impacting over 75,000 people statewide through various forms of outreach and service. Honorees have also been instrumental encouraging and inspiring teammates to further develop leadership qualities and volunteer on and off-campus. Honorees Jake Wesch of the football team and Betsy Miller of the Cross Country and Track and Field teams shared comments on behalf of all recipients. Seward Middle School Principal Steve Schrad relayed to the award winners the impact they have on students while Joe and Patty Porter talked about the impact a visit to Memorial Stadium and the chance to meet the Husker Football team had on their son Michael.
