Lincoln - The Nebraska men’s cross country team earned the 2006 Herman Award at the 16th annual University of Nebraska Student-Athlete Recognition Banquet on Sunday night at the BobDevaneySportsCenter.
The men’s team produced a 3.115 GPA during the 2005 calendar year to earn the award, which is given to the team with the highest grade-point average. It was the fourth consecutive year and fifth time overall it has won the award.
The women’s tennis team won the Herman Award on the other side, and an overall total of 193 Nebraska student-athletes were recognized at the banquet.
“Winning the Herman Award is annually one of our team goals,” Head Coach Jay Dirksen said. “It is a great tribute to win this award because there are so many great student-athletes on all our teams at Nebraska. We are especially fortunate to have a university that promotes excellence in both academic and athletic performance. I am very proud of our team and their commitment to excelling in all areas of their life, particularly as students.”
The men’s cross country team consisted of six members in 2005, only one of which was a senior. The Huskers finished 10th at the Big 12 Championships, two spots higher than 2004.
