Lincoln - The Nebraska women's basketball team captured its second Life Skills Award in three seasons of competition, the University of Nebraska Athletic Department announced at its 16th annual Student-Athlete Recognition Banquet on Sunday, April 23.
The Life Skills Award honors the team that demonstrated the strongest commitment to all phases of the life skills program over the past year, including outreach, education and leadership.
The Nebraska women’s basketball team earned the award in a tightly contested battle with last year’s recipient, the Husker football program. The award was the second in three years for Coach Connie Yori’s program, as the women’s basketball team also won the inaugural award in 2004.
The women’s basketball and football teams each earned more than 6,000 points in the Life Skills competition, with four other NU teams reaching the Gold Level, signifying more than 3,000 points.
Overall, 193 Nebraska student-athletes were recognized for the academic achievements during the past year. More than 650 people attended this year's banquet.
