Huskers Finish Third at NCAA Tournament

Houston, Texas - The Nebraska bowling team wrapped up its third appearance in the NCAA Championships with a semifinal loss to Alabama A&M at the Emerald Bowling Lanes on Saturday afternoon.

The Huskers finished the season with an outstanding 9-1 tournament record and a third-place NCAA finish. In 2005-06, NU set school records with nine consecutive tournament wins and had won a school-record 14 straight tournaments before falling at the NCAA Championships.

NU's loss, the second for the Huskers to Alabama A&M in the 2006 national tournament, ended Nebraska's bid to sweep the first three NCAA titles in the sport.

Nebraska, which has won seven national championships overall in women's bowling, fell to the elimination bracket on Friday morning with a 4-3 loss to Alabama A&M.  The Huskers battled back, defeating Central Missouri State and New Jersey City in rounds three and four on Friday, but NU was eliminated with a 4-2 loss to Alabama A&M in Saturday’s semifinals.

“We were never really in this tournament,” Nebraska Coach Bill Straub said.  “Every team has a badly-played series and this happened to be the one for us,”

The Huskers were attempting to complete a perfect tournament season, after capturing tournament championships in every regular-season event this season.

Despite the team setback, Nebraska junior Adrienne Miller made the NCAA all-tournament team for her outstanding play in the event.
