NU Hosts Canadian World Cup Team on Friday

The Nebraska soccer team hosts its lone home game of the spring season this Friday, when the Huskers welcome the Canadian World Cup team, which features six former Huskers. Kickoff is now scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the Nebraska Soccer Field, and admission is free.

 

Making the trip back to Lincoln are former Huskers Isabelle Morneau (1996-99), Sharolta Nonen (1996-99), Amy Walsh (1997-99), Karina LeBlanc (1997-2000), Christine Latham (1999-2002) and Sasha Andrews (2004-05).

 

Nebraska has already played a challenging three-game spring schedule this season. The Huskers opened the spring with a 2-2 tie on March 24 at FloridaState, which advanced to the College Cup last season. NU then traveled to Gainesville and lost 4-1 to the Florida Gators two days later.

 

The Huskers returned to Nebraska to face Minnesota in Omaha on April 1. Despite outplaying the Gophers, NU played Minnesota to a scoreless tie.

 

Following Friday’s match, Nebraska will wrap up its spring schedule with a match with Colorado on Friday, April 21. That contest is scheduled to be played in North Platte, Neb., with a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.

 

Nebraska is coming off a 14-8-1 2005 season that saw the Huskers advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the 10th consecutive season. NU returns seven starters from last year’s team, which finished the season ranked 21st, and will be bolstered by the return of Sari Raber and Linday Poehling, who missed last season with injuries. Although both players are back practicing with the team, neither will play in Friday’s match.

 

The Huskers open the fall season with the Jenna Cooper Memorial Match on Saturday, Aug. 19 in Louisville, Ky.Nebraska opens the regular season at home against WrightState on Friday, Aug. 25.
