Denver, Colo. - The No. 53 Nebraska men's tennis team fell to Denver, 5-2, in Denver, Colo., Friday night, in its first of two matches in Colorado this weekend.
The Huskers (10-7, 0-2) started out well, earning the doubles point with a win from senior Joerg Barthel and junior James Clow in the No. 2 spot over Nejc Smole and Steve Flaks, 8-4, while freshman Renato Melo and junior Adrian Szatmary sealed the point for the Huskers with a win in the No. 3 spot over Viktor Zetterholm and Aljosa Nipic, 8-6.
In singles, senior Jerry Posch faced his third consecutive ranked opponent, No. 83 Adam Holmstrom, falling 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Hendrik Stahmer claimed Nebraska's lone win in the singles column, posting a 6-2, 6-1, win over Aljosa Nipic in the No. 6 spot. Junior James Clow pushed Niklas Persson to three sets, but lost 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Mark Tate also forced his opponent, Viktor Zetterholm, into three sets, but fell 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
The Huskers return to Big 12 Conference action, Sunday, at 1 p.m., when they head to Boulder, Colo., to face No. 35 Colorado.
