Huskers Earn Bid to NCAA Championships

Lincoln-The No. 1 Nebraska bowling team received an official bid today for the 2006 NCAA Women’s Bowling Championships in <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Houston, Tex.  The Huskers, earning their third consecutive NCAA invitation, are one of eight teams competing for the title.  Other teams include Alabama A&M, Bethune-Cookman, CentralMissouriState, Fairleigh Dickinson, Maryland-Eastern Shore, New JerseyCity and Vanderbilt.  <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

The Harris County-Houston Sports Authority and PrairieViewA&MUniversity will co-host the championships, which will be held April 13-15 at the Emerald Bowl facility.  The teams will battle in qualifying rounds, which will determine a team’s seed based on total pinfall.  The teams will then be placed in a double-elimination bracket to compete against each other in a best-of-seven Baker-style bowling tournament. 

 

Nebraska, two-time defending national champions, earned eight consecutive titles during the 2005-06 season.  The Husker team finished its regular season with an overall record of 65-10.
