Huskers Continue Spring Workouts

Lincoln ? The Nebraska football team held the fifth of its 15 spring workouts Wednesday afternoon inside the HawksChampionshipCenter. The Huskers worked on some short yardage 3rd-and-1 drills and also spent some time working on the punting unit.

After practice, Head Coach Bill Callahan addressed the punter situation when asked if anyone had yet established themselves as a favorite to replace Ray Guy Award semi-finalist Sam Koch.

“Everyone is still competing,” Callahan said. “(Dan) Titchner, (Tyler) Kester, (Jake) Wesch and those guys are just out there banging balls, and we are charting everything. We are a long ways off from making any decisions in that area.”

Despite temperatures in the high-60s, Callahan said he didn’t mind staying inside the HawksChampionshipCenter, as construction keeps the team from practicing inside Memorial Stadium.

“To tell the truth, I have no idea what the weather is like out there,” Callahan said. “I’ve been inside all day. It could be raining or snowing, and all I know is that we are inside the HawksCenter having fun. This is a great facility to be in. We like being in here and we get a lot of work done in here. We’ll eventually get outside, but for right now, we’re just having good practices here, in this atmosphere and in this environment. Being in here really helps us with our concentration, and, of course, there is no wind factor so that makes it a lot easier on the quarterbacks’ arms.”

The Huskers return to the practice field Thursday morning with their sixth spring workout at 5:45 a.m.
