Geis Memorial Golf Tournament Set for August 14th

The fifth annual Julie Geis Memorial Golf Tournament will be held at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course on Monday, August 14, 2006. The tournament serves as a fundraiser for the Julie Geis Memorial Scholarship, as well as a time for friends and family to celebrate the life of former Husker softball player Julie Geis.

Entry fees for the tournament are $125 per player and $500 per team. The price includes a cart, green fees, meals and prizes. Registration begins at 10 a.m. on August 14, followed by an 11 a.m. shotgun start. The day concludes with a reception and auction at 4 p.m.

Proceeds from the tournament will be used to endow the Julie Geis Memorial Scholarship. Geis, a four-year letterwinner for the Husker softball team from 1976-79 was killed in the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The scholarship, which is awarded annually to a current member of the Nebraska softball team, was created in her memory with the goal of making it a fully endowed scholarship.

In order to fully endow the scholarship, $250,000 must be raised and the current total stands at $192,000. Once fully endowed, the scholarship lives off the interest and ensures that both the scholarship and Julie Geis live on forever with the Nebraska softball program.
