Lincoln- The NCAA sent out its invitations for the women's gymnastics regional championships on Monday afternoon, setting the six-team field at the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by the University of Georgia at the Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, April 8 at 5 p.m. (CST).
No. 12 Nebraska, which is 16-6-1 on the season, will face defending NCAA champion and nationally-ranked No. 1 Georgia, as well as No. 13 Missouri, West Virginia, North Carolina and North Carolina State. Regional competition will also include five all-around competitors and one individual event specialist per event. The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (not part of an advancing team) will receive an automatic berth to the 2006 NCAA Championships hosted by Oregon State University in Corvallis, Ore., April 20-22.
Sophomore Emily Parsons, the 2006 Big 12 vault and balance beam champion, will lead the Huskers into the Southeast Regional after a 196.275 second-place finish at the Big 12 Championship last Saturday in Lincoln. Sophomore Desire' Sniatynski, who is one of the Huskers' three returning All-Americans, and redshirt freshman Vanessa Meloche were also crowned co-conference champions on the uneven bars.
