The Huskers, who closed the season by winning five of their last seven games with their only two losses coming on the road to top-25 opponents, finished the regular season with a 17-12 overall record and an 8-8 mark in the Big 12 Conference. NU, under fourth-year head coach Connie Yori, also posted its second straight first-round tournament win at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Championship in Dallas last week.

“We feel very positive about the way we finished our season,” Yori said. “Now we hope we can carry some of the momentum we built at the end of the regular season into the Postseason WNIT. We know Drake is a quality opponent and we have great respect for Coach (Amy) Stephens and their program. We are definitely excited to be in the postseason for the third straight year.”

Stephens, who is the third-leading scorer in the history of Nebraska women’s basketball with 1,976 points in her four-year career from 1986-89, is in her third season as Drake’s head coach. She led the Bulldogs to a 17-11 record and the No. 2 seed in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament this season, losing to eventual tournament champion Missouri State, 78-62.

The Bulldogs finished the regular season by winning nine of their last 10 games. Stephens was an assistant coach on Yori’s first Nebraska coaching staff in 2002-03. The last time the two teams met was in the 2004 Postseason WNIT, with the Huskers running to a 73-60 victory at the Devaney Center on March 18.
