Three Huskers Earn Academic Honors

Lincoln - Nebraska women's basketball players Jessica Gerhart, Sarah White and Danielle Page were honored as members of the academic All-Big 12 Conference team announced by the league office on Wednesday.

The three Huskers were among 38 women's basketball players around the Big 12 honored for their academic and athletic accomplishments.

Gerhart, a junior forward from Fenton, Iowa, captured first-team academic All-Big 12 honors for the second time in her career. Gerhart carries a 3.5 grade-point average as a nutrition and dietetics major. She is also a four-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. She has started all 27 games for the Huskers this season and ranks third on the team in scoring with 9.7 points per game.

Gerhart was joined on the first-team academic All-Big 12 squad by White. The sophomore guard from Topeka, Kan., owns a 3.22 GPA as an elementary education major. A three-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, White has played in all 27 games for NU this season, averaging 2.5 points and 1.1 rebounds while shooting a team-best 55.6 percent from three-point range.

Page, a sophomore forward from Monument, Colo., rounds out the list of Nebraska honorees as a second-team academic All-Big 12 selection. Page carries a 3.007 GPA as a nutrition, fitness and health promotion major. She has appeared in all 27 games for Nebraska and is averaging 4.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. She has also produced a team-leading 30 blocked shots on the season and ranks ninth all-time with 61 blocks in her NU career.

Nominated by each institution's director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the academic all-league women's basketball squad consisted of 31 first-team members and seven second-team representatives. First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second-team student-athletes must have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.  Student-athletes must also participate in a minimum of 60 percent of her team's scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
