Columbus, Ga. - Unplayable field conditions cancelled the No. 18 Nebraska softball team's schedule of games for the second consecutive day at the NFCA Leadoff Classic. Saturday’s heavy rains in the Columbus, Ga., area not only forced the cancellation of Saturday’s games, but also resulted in a washout of Sunday’s action.
The city experienced two and a quarter inches of rain Saturday, making the playing surfaces at the South Commons Complex unplayable. Nebraska was scheduled to face Florida this morning with the possibility of also meeting second-ranked Tennessee. Instead, the Huskers end the tournament with a 2-0 mark, defeating Illinois, 21-1, and Florida Atlantic, 5-0, on Friday.
Nebraska returns to action next weekend when the Huskers travel to Tulsa, Okla., March 3-5 for the Best Western Airport Festival. NU is scheduled to play five games in three days and fans can follow the action live as three games will be carried on the Pinnacle Sports Network (1400 AM in Lincoln) and streamed for free on Huskers.com.
