Lincoln, Neb.?The Nebraska women’s tennis team remained at No. 36 in the ITA National Rankings released Tuesday, while sophomore Imke Reimers was ranked No. 100.
“We are really proud of her,” coach Scott Jacobson said. “It’s a testament to the additional time she has put in after practice. She is very deserving, and she can pay with anyone in the country and she proved that against Arkansas.”
Reimers has posted a 12-3 singles record this year, including winning the ITA Central Regional Consolation Bracket Championship. After winning four of her first five matches at the No. 3 singles slot, Reimers moved up in the lineup to No. 2. On Feb. 13, Reimers defeated then-No. 38 Ela Kaluder of Arkansas, 7-2 (2), 6-1. The win over Kaluder marked Reimers’ first victory over a ranked player in her career.
The sophomore from Germany also plays with senior Ewelina Skaza at the No. 1 doubles spot. Last season, Skaza and Reimers posted 17 doubles wins, which ranks fifth on NU’s single-season team doubles wins chart.
