Lincoln ? The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team improved its ranking to No. 7 nationally this week in the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches poll released Monday. The poll, which is calculated by average team score, also ranks NU second in both the South Central region and the Big 12 Conference after Saturday's win over conference rival Oklahoma, 196.85-196.00. In addition, the Huskers rank sixth nationally in team vault scoring (49.09), seventh on uneven bars (48.84) and floor exercise (48.825) and 13th on balance beam (48.44).
Individually, sophomore Emily Parsons is tied for third (39.375) nationally in the all-around standings with Alabama's Terin Humphrey and Tatjana Thuener-Rego of Michigan. Parsons is also the second-ranked vaulter in the nation with an average of 9.92, second only to two-time NCAA vault champion Ashley Miles of Alabama (9.94). In addition, Parsons is rated No. 2 on beam (9.875) and eighth on floor (9.87).
The Huskers will travel to State College, Pa., this Friday, Feb. 10, to take on No. 17 Penn State, Rutgers and Yale. Competition is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. (CST) at PSU's Rec Hall.
