LUBBOCK, Texas ? Former Nebraska baseball player Alex Gordon is among a handful of players featured in the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s inaugural "Hall of Fame Spotlight." The annual list will serve to highlight college baseball players, who have recently concluded their eligibility, having the most potential to one day be inducted into the new College Baseball Hall of Fame, in Lubbock, Texas.
In 2005, Gordon was honored by the College Baseball Foundation’s Brooks Wallace Award, symbolizing the top player in college baseball. The Husker third baseman hit .372 with 19 homers, 66 RBIs and 23 stolen bases en route to repeating as a first team All-American.
Gordon was one of only three players who were consensus first-team All-Americans in 2005, joining pitchers Luke Hochevar of Tennessee and Lance Broadway of Texas Christian.
The CBF Hall of Fame Spotlight focuses on players who attained 2005 first-team All-America status on at least one of the five major teams as chosen by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, College Baseball Foundation, American Baseball Coaches Association, Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball. Factors such as level of competition, statistics and team success all play a part in these selections.
To qualify for the College Baseball Hall of Fame, a player must have earned first-team All-America status; those players who have attained this level of recognition are then eligible for College Baseball Hall of Fame consideration five years after their college playing career ends, and immediately after their potential professional baseball career concludes.
