Huskers Prepare for Annual Intrasquad Meet

Lincoln - The Nebraska women’s gymnastics team will begin preparations for the 2006 season with an intrasquad meet on Friday, Dec. 9 at 6 p.m. The scrimmage, which will be held in the practice gym in Mabel Lee Hall, is open free of charge to the public.

The Huskers will perform on every event, beginning in Olympic order with vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.

Fans should enter through the west doors directly across from the Campus Recreation Center on 14th St. The gym is located on the third floor of Mabel Lee Hall.

Nebraska returns seven letterwinners, including four-time All-American sophomore Emily Parsons, who finished third on floor exercise at the NCAA Championships last spring. Three-time All-America honoree and defending Big 12 bars champion Michele Zabawa as well as second-team All-American Desire’ Sniatynski, highlight the Nebraska team that finished sixth nationally in 2005.

Juniors Stephanie Carter, Dani Millis and sophomore Brittney Williams also return to contribute to the Husker squad in its quest for an eighth conference championship. In addition, NU’s four freshman newcomers will make their debut, and highly-touted redshirt freshman Vanessa Meloche will compete on bars.

Nebraska opens its 2006 season Friday, Jan. 6, at the Super Six Challenge in Baton Rouge, La. The meet, which will feature the Huskers against national powers Alabama and LSU, along with Iowa State, Missouri and Auburn, is slated to begin at 6 p.m. at the Pete Maravich Center.
