Timko Earns Third-Team All-America Honors

Junior forward Brittany Timko, the reigning two-time Big 12 Soccer Player of the Year, added third-team All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America to her impressive resume at Nebraska when the All-America teams were announced in conjunction with the Men’s College Cup this weekend.

Timko, who also earned third-team All-America accolades in 2004, was among 13 players named to the third team 37 players honored overall. She was one of just two Big 12 student-athletes to earn All-America status.

A semifinalist for the Hermann Award, presented annually to the top Division I women’s soccer player, Timko led the Huskers with 11 goals, 21 assists and 43 points in 2005. In 2004, Timko became the first player in school history to lead the team in both goals and assists in the same season, a feat she accomplished again in 2005.

Her 21 assists were a new single-season school and Big 12 record, as she became the first player in school and league history to reach the 20-assist mark in a season. Timko’s eight game-winning assists bettered her previous school record of six, set in 2004, while her 14 career game-winning assists broke Meghan Anderson’s school record of 13.

Timko scored the Huskers’ lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Creighton in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, marking the 30th goal of her career. Timko has scored 30 career goals and added 30 career assists to join Anderson as the only players in school history to total both 30 goals and assists in a career.

A key player in the Huskers’ success, Timko helped Nebraska finished No. 21 in the final NSCAA/adidas top 25 poll, marking the 10th consecutive season NU has been ranked in the final poll. The Huskers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual national champion Portland, 3-2, becoming the only team to score more than one goal against the Pilots in 2005.

Timko is one of nine returning starters - including Sari Raber, who started every game as a freshman before missing the entire 2005 season due to injury - set to return to the Husker lineup in 2006.
